The international conference “The Flight of the Butterflies: Deconstructing Violence Against Women” promotes a broad, multidisciplinary reflection on gender-based violence and its many forms. It aims to question the cultural, social, and educational roots that continue to legitimize domination, control, and possessive jealousy.
Inspired by the story of the Mirabal sisters—symbols of resistance and freedom, murdered on November 25, 1960, for opposing the Trujillo dictatorship—the event retraces the origins of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Through the contribution of scholars, professionals, and institutions, the conference seeks to foster dialogue between academia and civil society, encouraging self-critical and transformative perspectives. It aims to build awareness of the historical and structural mechanisms of violence, while promoting a culture of equality, reciprocity, and respect for diversity.
- Organizers: Professor Giada Prisco and Professor Michela Baldini
